Safety Characteristics
The safety systems being implemented within the frame of the MIR.1200 project are based on the active and passive principle. A certain part of the systems performs normal operating functions and safety functions at the same time.
Except for the safety systems, the project considers special technical instruments intended for management of off-design accidents:
- In-containment hydrogen elimination system
- Practical core melt catcher system
- Containment passive cooling system (4 x 33%)
- Steam-generator passive cooling system (4 x 33%)
The last two passive systems represent clever and practical solutions having no competition among other current projects.
Protection of steam-generating nuclear equipment against external impacts
The buildings of the nuclear island directly connected with the containment or located close to it represent physical separation of the construction in respect of individual safety systems, including fire-stopping engineering structures. Thanks to optimization of mutual positions of the buildings, the joints between the buildings are shortened significantly.
