Technology
In 2006, development of Modernized International Reactor MIR.1200 with an increased output of 1200 MW was initiated. The design is based on the technology of pressurized water reactors having firm foundamentals in the characteristics of VVER-440, VVER-640 and VVER-1000 type reactors.
The integrity of the design of MIR.1200 reactors is based on the following evolutionary technologies:
- optimized configuration of safety systems involving active and passive elements being based on the principle of diversity (four safety channels);
- digital instrumental and control system
- increased turbine efficiency
- enhanced fuel utilization.
High performance of MIR.1200 is achieved due to the following advantages:
- finalized design fully compliant with European rules and standards (the project integrates NPP lifetime management with the equipment database, 3D-CAD, schedules, etc.);
- management of construction and schedule enabling implementation of on-site activities within 54 months from pouring the first concrete up to commissioning;
- service lifespan of up to 60 years;
- integration of serial equipment proven through long experience;
- maintenance outages within 18 days;
- overall repairs once in 8-10 years and replacement of equipment with respect to its actual condition;
- possibility of NPP operation under load-tracking conditions.
The main NPP operating mode is NPP operation in the basic mode with the output at 100%. The NPP equipment and systems enable operation in maneuvering modes of the output control. The unit may support operation in the mode of primary and secondary control of frequency and transmitted output.
