Czech company SKODA JS a.s. and NPP operator CEZ, a.s. have signed a contract for work for the supply of two sets of LKP-M/3 type control rod drive mechanisms of a new generation, including control electronics, valued at several hundred million Czech crowns.

At Temelin nuclear power plant, the new drives shall replace equipment with expiring design lifetime. Implementation of the business transaction involves design works associated with replacement of the equipment, related dismantling and installation, necessary tests, and also decontamination and fragmentation of the worn-out equipment.

The entire process in the form of a turnkey supply shall be completed by 2012. For SKODA JS it is already the thirteenth and fourteenth set of drives supplied in the last ten years. Nine out of the total number of sets have been supplied to Ukrainian power plants. The new equipment differs from its previous version mainly in a significantly longer design lifetime, user convenience and a number of new functions, which shall contribute to operation safety enhancement. The parameters of the given equipment enable its use in newly built nuclear power plants.
