Press Release of the Czech-Russian Consortium of SKODA JS a.s., ZAO «ATOMSTROYEXPORT» and OAO OKB «GIDROPRESS»
Date: 30. 10. 2009
Electricity utility CEZ, a.s. has been handed over the qualification documentation for the Temelin 3,4 Completion Project
The Czech-Russian Consortium of SKODA JS a.s., ZAO «ATOMSTROYEXPORT» and OAO OKB «GIDROPRESS» handed over the qualification documentation for the project of completion of the Temelin Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 3 and 4 to CEZ, a.s.
The Consortium offers European nuclear power plant design - MIR.1200 (Modernized International Reactor). MIR.1200 is simultaneously a nuclear power plant design and a model of cooperation. The MIR.1200 design is based on a long-standing partnership of Czech, European and international companies – leaders in different industrial spheres. The technological solutions of the design count on up to 70% supply of equipment, work and services from the Czech Republic. The MIR.1200 design builds upon more than half a century of experience in Czech-Russian cooperation and ensures further development of manufacturing and human resources of the Czech nuclear industry. As early as within this phase of qualification selection, the Czech-Russian Consortium concluded agreements on future contracts with more than twenty significant Czech suppliers of equipment and services.
The MIR.1200 design complies with the Customer’s requirements and it is supported by references from the spheres of technology, key equipment and fuel. The MIR.1200 design profits from more than 1290 reactor years of VVER-type nuclear power plants operation. Nuclear power plants constructed in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Hungary and other European countries on the basis of the Russian VVER-type light-water reactor technologies are of the best parameters of reliability and effectiveness in Europe and round the world.
Upon MIR.1200 design development, first-rate importance was given to environmental aspects. Under the conditions of necessary greenhouse gases reduction, the MIR.1200 design can contribute to provision of energy safety as well as energy and environmental stability in global economy.
At present, nuclear power industry is the only technologically and economically competitive source of “clean” electrical power. Implementation of the MIR.1200 design at the Temelin nuclear power plant will enable increase of the competitiveness of the Czech Republic in electrical power supply as well as its industrial development. MIR.1200 is a highly effective and environmentally safe design, which will serve to the current and also future generations.
MIR.1200 complies with international standards and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency and it is characterized by increased technical-economic parameters as well as safety characteristics. In Russia, four analogous power units are already under construction at the premises of the Leningrad nuclear power plant and Novovoronezh nuclear power plant (two power units). Currently, the MIR.1200 design is being offered for implementation in Finland (one unit), Turkey (four units), and also at the premises of the Baltic nuclear power plant in the Kaliningrad Region in the Russian Federation (two units).
Maximum involvement of Czech companies as well as reference technological solutions of the MIR.1200 design enable the Czech-Russian Consortium to effectively control the price of the nuclear power plant constructed.
In order to achieve higher energy independency of the Czech Republic, within the frame the Czech-Russian Consortium the Russian party offers, on behalf of state corporation Rosatom, a possibility of construction of a nuclear fuel production facility in the territory of the Czech Republic. The facility could provide fuel supplies for nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other European countries.
Thanks to the interconnection of facilities and technologies of different countries the MIR.1200 design will represent a great contribution to harmonized global development of worldwide safety.
ŠKODA JS – is one of the leading engineering and production companies with worldwide experience in construction and service of nuclear power plants. Škoda was established in 1859, and the origins of its activities in nuclear power industry fall in 1956. Throughout the period of its existence, the company has supplied engineering, equipment and service for nuclear power plants, research reactors and spent fuel storage facilities in Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, France, Germany, USA and the Far East. Up to the present day, ŠKODA JS has produced and supplied 21 complete nuclear reactors of the VVER 440 type and 3 reactors of the VVER 1000 type.
ZAO “ATOMSTROYEXPORT” (ASE) is a leading Russian state-owned engineering company, which implements interstate and business agreements on construction of nuclear power industry facilities abroad. At present, ASE is performing contracts constituting approximately 20% of the competitive global market volume. ASE is one of the biggest suppliers of Russian highly-sophisticated technologies to foreign countries. Upon its operation, the company profits from half a century of experience of the Russian nuclear power business and constructs new generation nuclear power plants fully consistent with international requirements and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency .
OAO OKB “GIDROPRESS” – implements complex design activities, calculations, theoretical and experimental research for implementation of nuclear facilities (nuclear steam supply systems) and manufacture of equipment for VVER technology-based nuclear power plants, which are characterized by increased safety, reliability, effectiveness and competitiveness within the Russian Federation and also abroad.
