ŠKODA JS supports Czech technical education

Date: 7. 7. 2010

Also this year ŠKODA JS inc., one of the most significant engineering companies in the Czech Republic, continues in systematic supporting of Czech education system, especially its branches specialized in engineering, which the Company perceives as necessary condition for successful development of Czech power industry.

The team of Techmania, not-for-profit Pilsen organization supporting science and research, is applying for a grant from EU operational program Research and Development for Innovations. Its goal is to obtain a financing for the project of Pilsen city zone focused on technical fields popularizing educational activites. ŠKODA JS has offered its full support and warranties to this unique project.

„We like to support this original project which will certainly increase the interest in science and technology and which will especially inspire young people who have just begun considering their future professions“ says Miroslav Fiala, the ŠKODA JS general director and the chairman of its Board of Directors.

However the Techmania is not just waiting for tomorrow. In cooperation with the ŠKODA JS it is already addressing students of primary and secondary schools and presents them the magic of technical fields and in particular of nuclear power industry. It is resulting from the fact that supporting universities is not sufficient; the interest of young people needs to be attracted much sooner. That is why in 2007 the ŠKODA JS started to cooperate with PORG Prague grammar school. This unique school belongs to the top of Czech secondary education and in future the Company would like to open its affiliated branch in Pilsen.

Assistance during development of the city zone and turning of neglected industrial area into laboratiories and workshops encouraging the interest of childen and teenagers is not the only educational project supported by the ŠKODA JS. In long term the Company cooperates with the Technical University of Liberec, VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, or the Czech Technical University in Prague where it also services the „school“ reactor. The support is focused on particular programs and talented students. These can also gain experience as trainees in the Company or elaborate their diploma thesis under the skilled surveillance of the Company´s qualified employees. Many of our professionals also teach at universities as external lecturers.

Furthermore the ŠKODA JS helps through the education fund of the Committee of Good Will – Olga Havel Foundation whose scholarship holders study at technical schools as well.

„We really appreciate the support, thanks to the ŠKODA JS our students, education fund scholarship holders, have the possibility to visit the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant and top scientific and design workplaces in Saint Peterburg this week. I believe that this is going to be very inspirative“, says Milena Černá, the director of the Foundation.
