Installation of a pressure vessel from ŠKODA JS is an important milestone in the building process of new nuclear power units of Mochovce NPP

Date: 7. 9. 2010

Slovak Mochovce attracts attention of all nuclear experts, economists, but also regular current consumers. Today, the reactor concrete cavity was equipped with a bulky 250 t reactor pressure vessel. Installation of this key technological equipment for completion of the VVER 440 type nuclear reactor, which was supplied to Slovakia by the Pilsen company ŠKODA JS, represents an important milestone in the construction schedule of the 3rd unit of the Mochovce NPP. The major investor and coordinator is the company Slovenske elektrarne, a.s., owned by Italian group ENEL.

Realization of this project is great news for the Czech Republic and its nuclear industry, which confirms its readiness to play a decent role in a new time of the global expansion of nuclear power industry. Participation in the completion of this NPP allows SKODA JS as well as its suppliers to enhance their know-how, to increase qualifications and skills of their teams thus preparing for other major projects

“It's another successful chapter in the 40-years history of the Czech and Slovak nuclear energetics. The cooperation with Slovak partners is highly appreciated. Supply of the key systems within this project underscores our company´s leading role in implementation of major investment units for nuclear plants both in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The principle of the Czech and Slovak cooperation in implementing the Russian basic design has been proven again. I am convinced that our experts will be able to fully apply their skills and knowledge even when considering the construction of new nuclear units in Temelín, and on other plants in the CEE region”, said Miroslav Fiala, ŠKODA JS’ CEO and General Manager.

Also thanks to the success of the Mochovce project, SKODA JS has consistently very positive economic results. The year 2009 was the 10th successful year for the company in a continuous series since 2000. Compared to 2008 revenues grew by 27% and amounted to almost CZK 4 billion of which 38% was exported. The value of new received orders increased by leaps and bounds by 195% and reached a record value of 11.7 billion CZK.

SKODA JS achieved the net profit of CZK 194 million in 2009. These results indicate the fulfillment of all indicators of the plan, provided by the Russian engineering group OMZ, which is a shareholder of the company since 2004.
