Another ŠKODA JS´s success at world markets

Key reactor technologies supplied to AREVA
The ŠKODA JS a.s. company has successfully completed contracts for production of internal parts and reactor pressure vessel support frame for AREVA’s new generation EPR™ Nuclear Power Plant. These contracts also include the product of special lifting device for safe manipulation with reactor internal parts during construction and regular outages.
„We delivered the reactor support frame in December 2008. The internal parts and the manipulator have arrived to final client just these days“, says Milan Kohout, member of the Board of Directors and Commercial Director of the company. The reactor internal parts manipulator has successfully passed demanding endurance tests under the AREVA’s supervision before shipment.
This successful completion of the contract is another evidence of the high potential of the Czech nuclear industry, after the success in Slovak Mochovce NPP, where the pressure vessel for VVER-type reactor, made in ŠKODA JS, was installed in September.
„Participation on similar projects is helping us to develop our own know-how. I have made sure again that our people have abilities and knowledge that can be applied during construction of new nuclear units in the Czech Republic and also abroad“, said the ŠKODA JS´s Chairman of the Board and General Director Miroslav Fiala.
Also thanks to these successful projects the ŠKODA JS constantly has very favourable economic results. The year of 2009 was for the Company the tenth successful year in a raw since 2000. Compared to 2009 the revenues have increased by 27% and reached the value of almost CZK 4 billion, 38% of this amount was for export. The value of newly concluded contracts have abruptly increased by 195% and reached record value of CZK 11,7 billion.
The increasing share of export on total revenues shows the confidence of significant foreign partners in abilities and reliability of the ŠKODA JS. Supplies of spent nuclear fuel “high density” storage racks for Ukrainian NPP operator, close cooperation with German partner in supplies of spent fuel storage casks to Ignalina NPP in Lithuania and Kozloduy NPP in Bulgaria or supplies of control rod drive mechanisms and neutron-flux measuring channels to Hungarian Paks NPP are another example of ŠKODA JS´s position at world nuclear industry market.
The ŠKODA JS therefore reached net profit in amount of CZK 194 million in 2009 (data consolidated by IFRS). These results mean fulfilment of all economical plan indicators laid down by the Russian machinery group OMZ, which is the Company´s major shareholder since 2004.
