Nuclear Days in Techmania

The exhibition „Nuclear days in Techmania“, focusing on nuclear power industry, was opened in Techmania Science Center in Pilsen in mid-May 2011.  The inauguration was attended by the representatives of all partner organizations as well as European, national and regional politicians.

The exposition, main organizer of which was ŠKODA JS with a significant participation of Techmania Science Center, lasted till the end of May.  The other partners of exhibition were The Department of Power System Engineering of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at The University of West Bohemia, The Department of Nuclear Reactors of Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering at Czech Technical University in Prague, companies ČEZ, a.s., Nuclear Research Institute Řež, ZAT a.s. and VÍTKOVICE MACHINERY GROUP.

Main attraction of „preliminary year“ exhibition was the exposition of nuclear energy facilities accompanied by expert lectures for schools and the public. People could see ( among many other exhibits ) reactor VVER 1000 model, dummy fuel assembly in a scale of 1:1, simulator of training reactor VR-1 or steam generator model.  

Program of the exhibition, apart from the above mentioned exposition of facilities and information posters,  also included  excursions with expert commentaries and a series of lectures for schools and the public, focusing on nuclear power industry.  The preparation of lectures and their presentation was participated by staff members of the above mentioned partner companies. The aim of the project was to make audience more familiar with nuclear power industry to describe up-to-date subjects in view of  the accident  at Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima, and last but not least to promote the abilities of Czech industry in this particular field.

The exhibition – first one of its kind in the Czech Republic  - was greatly appreciated by the general public and achieved its aim, i.e. to introduce nuclear power industry to the general public, to engage  talented students and attract them for promising branch and last but not least to remind the Pilsen citizens of activities of ŠKODA JS. The exposition attendance of more than 3000 visitors and nearly 500 secondary students on accompanying lectures during the exhibition is a promising and motivating aspect for next years.
