Škoda JS, seated in Plzeň, will supply internal parts of the biggest nuclear reactor in the world to Chinese Taishan nuclear power plant, Unit 1 and 2.
The nuclear power plant, which is going to be the third one in the world equipped with a new EPR type reactor, is being constructed by a consortium of one French and two Chinese companies in Kuang-tung province in the South-East of China. Škoda JS did not disclose the contract financial volume, however, as Mr. Josef Říha from Škoda JS said on Tuesday, the equipment shall be supplied in February 2012.
Škoda JS concluded the contract with French Areva NP, with which it has been cooperating on EPR projects since 2005. In cooperation with the French, Škoda JS has already been awarded contracts for manufacture of reactor internal parts for the new unit of Finnish Olkiluoto nuclear power plant. The EPR III+ reactor under construction is of the highest power output in the world – 1,600 megawatt. Its advantage is higher operating safety, service lifetime extended to 60 years and higher level of environmental friendliness, as its fuel consumption is by 15 % lower and the volume of its radioactive waste production is also smaller.
