Slovenské elektrárne has concluded contracts with companies that will complete the construction of the Mochovce nuclear power plant.
Plzen-seated company ŠKODA JS has already secured its share in the Mochovce nuclear power plant completion project, as yesterday Slovenské elektrárne (SE) signed contracts with main nuclear island suppliers for completion of Unit 3 and 4 of the power plant. Up to this day, SE has concluded contracts amounting to EUR 1.3 billion (approximately CZK 35 billion); that is nearly a half of the planned investment for completion of both units, which represents EUR 2.7 billion.
ŠKODA JS, which is owned by the Russian OMZ group, and the Slovak party concluded a contract amounting to more than 10 billion Czech crowns. "We have returned onto the market as a great turn-key supplier of engineering activities and equipment for nuclear power industry. The supply of the nuclear island main systems guarantees us development and expansion in this field for the following years and provides us with an important reference for assertion in future projects”, Mr. Fiala, the Chairman of the Board and General Manager of ŠKODA JS, said. According to him, it will also enable upbringing of a new generation of experts for the planned construction of nuclear power units in Temelín, Bohunice and Dukovany.
The General Manager of Slovenské elektrárne, Paolo Ruzzini, also signed contracts with Russian company Atomstroyexport, Slovak Nuclear Power Plants Research Institute (VÚJE), Enseco and Inženierske stavby Košice. A contract, whose subject is implementation of engineering activities, construction and project management of the conventional island of the nuclear power plant, has been signed between Slovenské elektrárne and Italian Enel e Innovazione. The above company is a subsidiary of Enel, majority owner of Slovenské elektrárne. For the time being, the Slovak state retains its one-third share in the company.
Slovenské elektrárne officially launched work on the completion of Unit 3 and 4 of the Mochovce nuclear power plant as early as last November. The new units shall be commissioned in 2012 and 2013, respectively. The goal is that these units cover more than a fifth of energy consumption in the Slovak Republic, which is currently dependent on power supplies from abroad. The new units with power capacity of 880 megawatt shall compensate for the power deficit caused by the shutdown of two units in Jaslovské Bohunice. The above nuclear power plant did not comply with safety requirements and even before its entrance in the European Union Slovakia had undertaken to terminate the criticized operation. For the Mochovce completion project, Russian technology will be used again.
