Flange joint stud tensioner

Based on the contract concluded with the main contractor of the Lungman project, GE Nuclear Energy , ŠKODA JS has designed, manufactured and supplied two sets of reactor main flange joint stud tensioners to the newly constructed Lungman nuclear power plant (2 x ABWR 1350) in Taiwan.

The stud tensioner is a fully automated device that operates the main flange joint of the reactor, meeting the extreme requirements for accuracy, speed and functional reliability. This device is designed for seismic areas, temperatures up to 40°C, and the relative humidity of 95%.

The stud tensioner carries out the following main functions:

  • Assembling and dismantling the nuts, including the washers
  • Tightening and loosening the nuts, while performing the hydraulic pre-tensioning the bolts.
  • Assembling and dismantling the bolts.
  • Measuring the elongation of the bolts.
  • Cleaning the bolts.
  • The stud tensioner supporting structure is designed to handle the lid of the reactor pressure vessel.

This product well demonstrates engineering skills and capabilities of ŠKODA JS. Based on a simple assignment provided by the customer, ŠKODA JS is able to design and manufacture sophisticated equipment for nuclear reactor servicing.
