Outages
An outage is a scheduled cut-off of a nuclear unit, during which refueling and, as far as the supplier is concerned, a periodical inspection of the equipment in compliance with the technical documentation requirements are performed. The outage is prepared in detail and approved by all participants. Based on the scope of works performed (time duration) such outages may be divided in the categories of small and big ones.
During outages, the following activities are performed:
In-service inspections
SKODA JS has more than thirty-year experience with pre-service and in-service inspections. The reactor pressure vessel, main flange joint studs, welds on the main circulation piping and other important components of the primary circuit are periodically inspected. So far, nearly 80 pre- and in-service automated inspections of the reactor pressure vessel have been performed.

Testing manipulators
- automated system for defectoscopic inspection of the reactor pressure vessel by the use of SKIN manipulator
- inspection of the reactor internals by means of TEKOR-type manipulator
- KOMAS-type equipment for the inspection of studs and nuts
- ultrasonic tests of the main circulation piping welds by means of MIMIC manipulator
- JEKOZ-type manipulator for the inspection of threaded holes in the flange of the reactor pressure vessel
Engineering supervision
To the customer, who has their own experienced service team available, ŠKODA JS provides experienced personnel responsible for the supervision during the installation and repairs. This kind of service is provided to all nuclear units which ŠKODA JS supplied equipment to.
Repairs
In case of a defect on the primary circuit and fuel handling system of VVER-type units, ŠKODA JS is ready to deal operatively with the problems of the unit operator. ŠKODA JS has teams of specialists trained for this purpose, who master complex repairs in the plant’s controlled area. In cooperation with the unit operators, advance development of technology, which in case of need has to be available, takes place. The company also builds on the references from the repairs of gas and petrochemical equipment.
